Editorial Policy
Everything below is applied before publication, not promised after it.
Attribution
Inside every report a fact is attributed to the body that issued it: the ministry that announced it, the authority that recorded it, the organisation that warned of it.
Timing
The date on a report here is the day we published it. When the event occurred is stated inside the text whenever it matters.
Uncertainty, in place
What we do not know is said where it belongs: "according to the ministry", "no response has been issued". A sentence inside the report, not a disclaimer bolted to the end of it.
Pictures
Pictures come from news organisations and from openly licensed archives. An archive picture shows the place or the context, not the incident itself. Credits for openly licensed pictures are listed on the image rights page.
Bylines
Each report is signed by the desk that covers its section, together with the name of that desk's editor. A report published directly by an editor carries that editor's own name. Desks and editors are listed on the desks page.
