Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani demands justice as Israeli attacks continue despite the October 2025 ceasefire agreement.

Qatar's emir calls for accountability for genocide in Gaza

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani called for criminal accountability regarding Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip during an address on Tuesday. He spoke at the opening of the fifty-fifth annual session of Qatar’s Shura Council in Doha. The emir stated that the ongoing violence constitutes genocide and emphasized that perpetrators must face justice for their crimes against Palestinians.

The Qatari leader declared that what happened in the enclave is unquestionably genocide. He insisted that those responsible must not be allowed to escape accountability for the devastation inflicted over the past three years. His remarks highlight the continued suffering of Palestinians who face death and displacement despite diplomatic efforts to end the war and restore stability to the region.

Israeli attacks have persisted across Gaza even after a ceasefire agreement took effect on October 10, 2025. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, these continued operations have killed 1,493 Palestinians and injured 5,299 others in the year following the truce. Most of the victims are women and children, adding to the toll of more than 74,000 deaths since October 2023.

Israel has also maintained strict restrictions on the entry of essential humanitarian supplies into the enclave. These limitations affect food, medicine, medical supplies, and shelter materials needed by approximately 2.4 million Palestinians. Around 2.15 million people remain displaced amid severe humanitarian conditions, with many living in overcrowded tents after losing their homes to widespread infrastructure destruction.

International legal proceedings are currently addressing allegations of war crimes and genocide in Gaza. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November 2024 for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Meanwhile, the International Court of Justice is hearing a case brought by South Africa accusing Israel of violating the Genocide Convention against Palestinians in the territory.
