Trump endorses Netanyahu ahead of Israeli election

US president backs prime minister on social media and warns against choosing another leader.

Trump endorses Netanyahu ahead of Israeli election

US President Donald Trump declared his complete and total endorsement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. The announcement came less than ten days before elections are scheduled to take place in the country. Trump posted a message addressed directly to the Israeli people on his Truth Social platform.

Trump praised the incumbent leader as strong, brave, and brilliant in his public statement. He noted that he had watched Netanyahu operate under the most trying of times during his tenure. The US president claimed that normal individuals would have wilted under such intense pressure but Netanyahu did not.

The president stated that any alternative to Netanyahu would be the wrong choice for Israel. He warned that America might have to finish the job with Iran itself if Israelis choose another leader. Trump added that he was not inclined to do this work without Netanyahu in office.

Netanyahu responded by thanking Trump for his tremendous support and partnership in a written reply. He stated that together they would complete the mission. This endorsement arrives as opinion polls indicate a deadlock between Netanyahu’s coalition and an opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot.

A recent poll published by Maariv put each political bloc at 51 seats. This figure remains well short of the 61 seats needed for a parliamentary majority. However, Eisenkot led Netanyahu when respondents were asked who was better suited to serve as prime minister.
