Trump Plans $2.8 Billion Bomb Sale to Israel Amid Gaza Ceasefire

The Trump administration is preparing a major arms sale to Israel worth approximately $2.8 billion. This significant transfer includes forty thousand powerful two-thousand-pound bombs. The deal proceeds even as Israeli attacks continue killing Palestinians in Gaza. These fatalities occur despite the existence of a ceasefire agreement currently in effect.

The proposed package contains twenty thousand MK-84 bombs and twenty thousand BLU-117 bombs. It also includes twenty thousand I-2000 Penetrator warheads designed for hardened targets. Reports describe this as the largest single sale of such bombs to Israel in recent years. The transaction would be financed largely through United States Foreign Military Financing programs.

American taxpayer funds are provided to Israel under this financing mechanism to purchase weapons. MK-84 bombs are among the most powerful conventional munitions in Western arsenals today. Their explosions cause extensive destruction and penetrate metal and concrete effectively. They send lethal fragments over large distances during detonation events.

This capability raises serious concerns over their use in densely populated areas. Israel has repeatedly used these bombs in Gaza and Lebanon recently. Their use in Gaza has drawn international criticism because of enormous destructive impact. This damage affects densely populated civilian areas including locations designated as safe zones.

The sale has been informally notified to congressional committees but is not finalized. Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen intends to build opposition to the package. President Donald Trump reversed a previous pause on such shipments in January 2025. Gaza health authorities report at least one thousand three hundred seventy-five Palestinians killed since October 2025.
