UN Warns of Sharp Rise in Demolitions in Masafer Yatta
Recent Israeli actions displaced nearly sixty Palestinians, half of them children, as international officials assess urgent humanitarian needs in the southern West Bank.

The United Nations has warned of a sharp increase in Israeli demolitions of Palestinian homes and property in Masafer Yatta. Recent actions in this southern occupied West Bank area have displaced dozens of Palestinians. Half of those affected by the latest wave of destruction are children.
Israeli authorities demolished twenty homes and other structures on Tuesday in two herding communities. These destroyed assets included a water cistern and solar panels built with donor support. Combined with earlier demolitions in a third nearby community, the actions displaced nearly sixty people. Another thirty seasonal residents were also affected by these widespread structural losses.
Roughly 1,200 Palestinians live across thirteen communities in Masafer Yatta. Israeli authorities have designated this entire area as a firing zone for military training. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated that all communities face pressure to leave. This pressure is compounded by escalating settler violence following new outpost establishments.
More than 3,960 Palestinians were displaced in the occupied West Bank in 2026 through August. Demolitions, evictions, and settler attacks drove this significant rise in forced displacement. Over 2,500 individuals, including more than 1,200 children, fled due to settler violence. UN officials visited the area to provide emergency shelter and food assistance.
