PNN Launches Accountability Program Highlighting Citizen Needs

Palestine News Network has launched a new television programme called PNN Accountability. It focuses on everyday concerns of Palestinian citizens through field reports. The first episode addressed medical services, water shortages, home demolitions and disability care needs in various communities.

The programme examines issues affecting daily lives by documenting citizen experiences. Cases are followed up with governmental and civil society institutions. Specialists are invited to discuss raised issues and provide context along with possible solutions for the documented problems facing local populations today.

Beit Sahour Municipality initiated purchasing an ambulance for patients and injured people. Mayor Laith Qumsieh discussed this initiative and its importance for residents. He stressed that operating the vehicle requires fuel, equipment, staffing and regular maintenance beyond just the initial purchase cost alone.

Qumsieh hoped government institutions would provide remaining resources needed for effective operation. He stated primary responsibility for ambulances lies with the Ministry of Health. The second issue examined was water shortage affecting villages, refugee camps and cities across the region significantly.

Idhna Mayor Rizq Atteya discussed causes including Israeli control over water resources. He highlighted shortcomings in distribution systems affecting local residents negatively. The municipality coordinates with relevant institutions to improve supplies and ensure water reaches residents despite ongoing restrictions and structural challenges faced daily.

Mohammad Darwish reported more than twenty demolition notices issued since August. These orders threaten homes in Masafer Yatta and displace entire communities. He warned continued demolitions could empty the area of residents while calling for increased support to protect families determined to remain on their land.

Odeh Obeidat explained rehabilitation services begin with individual assessments of each child. Services include assistive devices, therapy and medical supplies based on specific needs. He stressed supporting children with disabilities requires an integrated package of interventions tailored to each family circumstances ensuring access to required care.
