UN Chief: Over 1,300 Palestinians Killed in Gaza Since Ceasefire

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk stated that Israeli forces have killed more than one thousand three hundred Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. These deaths occurred through daily attacks since a ceasefire was announced in October two thousand twenty five. Turk delivered these remarks on Monday during the opening of the sixty third session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The UN official emphasized that Israel continues to restrict the entry of humanitarian aid into the coastal enclave. This restriction exacerbates the suffering of the civilian population despite the passage of approximately one year since the agreement took effect. Turk expressed shock over Israeli proposals aimed at displacing all Palestinians from the territory under plans described as voluntary migration.

He strongly criticized the continuous inhumane rhetoric used by some Israeli officials regarding Palestinians. Such language was described as deeply concerning and contrary to international humanitarian standards. Turk also pointed out that Israel continues its annexation operations in the occupied West Bank. This action defies a clear decision by the International Court of Justice regarding the status of these lands.

The High Commissioner called on countries to halt arms exports to Israel to prevent further violations. He urged companies to end business practices that support Israeli settlements in occupied territories. Turk stressed the need for global accountability and adherence to international law to protect human rights. He warned that verbal condemnation is insufficient without concrete action to stop the entrenchment of occupation.
