Israeli Culture Minister Miki Zohar threatened on Sunday to strip citizenship from directors of an award-winning documentary about Gaza. He accused the creators of treason against the state for their work exposing military operations and civilian casualties in the region.

The film titled NAZA features interviews with twenty-four Israeli military or intelligence whistleblowers. These sources outlined artificial intelligence powered targeting systems used to bombard Gaza. The attacks have reportedly killed tens of thousands of civilians during the ongoing conflict.

Zohar posted a statement on social media platform X regarding the controversial project. He declared his intent to act immediately against the filmmakers. He described them as despicable creators who committed treason against the state through their cinematic work and public statements.

Director Yuval Abraham responded by sharing insights from intelligence officers featured in the film. He stated that these officers described the mass killing as systemic rather than accidental. The policies are based on total dehumanisation of Palestinians according to the whistleblower accounts.

The eighty minute documentary recently won a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival. This recognition has intensified political backlash within Israel against the filmmakers. The incident highlights growing tensions over artistic expression and criticism of military actions in the region.
