Settlers Cut Water Lines in Masafer Yatta Amid Escalating Demolitions
Israeli settlers and army forces repeatedly damage infrastructure, forcing 1,600 families to rely on expensive tanks while demolitions displace hundreds.

Palestinians in Masafer Yatta face severe water shortages after Israeli settlers damaged supply lines. Hebron Governor Khaled Dudin confirmed this is the fifth such attack. The incident leaves 1,600 families in fourteen hamlets struggling with dire living conditions. Residents are now forced to depend on costly water tanks for survival.
The area is a strategic semi-desert zone near the Green Line. Israel views it as a buffer requiring Palestinian removal. Settler attacks on livelihoods have escalated significantly in recent weeks. Local activist Sami Hureini noted that villages face relentless assaults. He stated that the army also contributes to infrastructure destruction regularly.
Infrastructure development is strictly prohibited by military orders. The main water line was extended in 2018 with European funding. It has been cut or damaged multiple times since 2019. Mayor Nidal Younis explained that repairs are becoming nearly futile. Escalating restrictions and demolitions hinder any meaningful restoration efforts effectively.
Recent demolitions have left hundreds without homes in just days. Israeli forces destroyed structures in Fakhit, Tabban, and Jinba recently. Thirty people lost housing in Fakhit alone two weeks ago. Residents remain in tents and caves despite harsh conditions. Many herders are forced to sell livestock due to water scarcity.
Human rights groups denounce these actions as systemic cruelty. Amnesty International and B’Tselem highlight the deprivation of vulnerable communities. The goal appears to be displacing Palestinians from their ancestral lands. Younis affirmed that steadfastness is growing harder daily. The occupation aims to empty the area of its Palestinian presence entirely.
