MSF Bus Struck in Gaza City Injuring One Staff Member

An Israeli airstrike hit a Doctors Without Borders bus carrying ten humanitarian workers in Gaza City on September 13. The attack damaged the vehicle and injured one staff member during the incident.

The medical organization stated that the bus was clearly identifiable with its logo displayed prominently on the roof. Despite these visible markings, the vehicle was targeted by Israeli forces during the strike.

MSF described the incident as a blatant disregard for the safety of humanitarian and medical personnel. The group emphasized that Israeli forces have once again shown such disregard for teams working in the area.

Dr Awni Al Jaafarawi, an MSF doctor aboard the bus, said the team was returning home after a twenty-four hour shift. He noted that a nearby vehicle was struck first, sending shattered glass through their bus window.

The organization declared that there is no safe place in Gaza for anyone. It renewed its urgent call for the protection of civilians and medical personnel carrying out lifesaving operations in the enclave.

MSF stressed that clearly marked medical and humanitarian vehicles must be protected from attack under international law. The group has repeatedly called for unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza for aid delivery.

Since October 2023, the war has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured over 174,000 others. MSF reported that fifteen of its colleagues have been killed and thousands require medical evacuation.
