PRCS Warns of Gaza Health Collapse Amid Fuel Crisis

Severe shortages of fuel and medicine threaten hospitals as casualties rise despite the October 2025 ceasefire agreement.

PRCS Warns of Gaza Health Collapse Amid Fuel Crisis

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society has warned of an imminent health catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. Severe fuel shortages, electricity cuts, and medicine scarcity threaten the devastated healthcare system. This urgent alert highlights the critical risks facing patients and medical staff in the enclave today.

Bashar Murad, director of health programs at the PRCS, stated that the health system faces severe deterioration. Hospitals are increasingly threatened by shortages of fuel needed to operate generators. This occurs amid the continued absence of regular electricity supply across the region.

Gaza has been without grid electricity since October 2023. Hospitals depend heavily on generators to run intensive-care units and ventilators. Shortages of fuel, engine oil, and spare parts place these essential generators under increasing pressure daily.

Israeli attacks continue despite the ceasefire established in October 2025. The Gaza Health Ministry reports 1,372 Palestinians killed and 4,659 injured since then. These ongoing violations further strain the already depleted and overwhelmed medical system significantly.

Restrictions at Gaza’s crossings have deepened the crisis for sick Palestinians. Patients requiring advanced surgery or treatment unavailable inside the enclave face significant barriers. Murad noted that these limitations worsen conditions for those needing medical evacuation urgently.

The healthcare system suffers from severe shortages of medicines and hospital beds. Ambulances and essential medical equipment are also scarce. Damaged diagnostic services reduce hospitals' ability to treat patients effectively. Facilities struggle to meet the growing needs of the population.
