Six-Year-Old Girl Killed by Drone on First School Day

Six-year-old Wafa Akila was killed by an Israeli drone strike on Sunday while traveling to her first day of school. The attack occurred near an intersection west of Gaza City and also claimed the life of her father, Yousef Akila, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Blood-stained schoolbooks lay scattered across the street next to the young girl’s body after the missile hit their car. Both father and daughter died instantly from the impact. This tragic event highlights the continued violence despite the existence of a ceasefire agreement that officially went into effect on October 10, 2025.

Palestinians have not violated the ceasefire terms, yet Israel continues to bomb the Gaza Strip with complete impunity on a daily basis. This specific drone strike represents just the most recent instance among thousands of alleged Israeli violations of the truce that have occurred since it was established late last year.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, these ongoing violations have resulted in significant casualties. As of Saturday, the breaches of the agreement have caused the death of 1,344 people and left another 4,464 individuals injured across the besieged coastal enclave.

In addition to this fatal strike, Israeli forces shelled the area around Abu Asi school in the Shat refugee camp west of Gaza City. Reports indicate a number of injuries resulted from that shelling. Occupation artillery also targeted the east of Al-Tuffah neighborhood and the northeast of Al-Bureij camp in central Gaza.

The total death toll from the aggression since October 7, 2023, has risen to 73,651 confirmed killed and 174,592 injured. Local hospitals received seventeen new injury cases during the past twenty-four hours alone, reflecting the relentless nature of the military operations that continue to devastate the region.
