UN Warns Gaza Remains Unsafe Despite Ceasefire

The United Nations warned on Friday that no place or person remains safe in Gaza. This alert comes nearly a year after a declared ceasefire ended hostilities. Persistent Israeli attacks continue to inflict heavy casualties across the besieged enclave.

The UN Human Rights Office confirmed that twenty-four Palestinians were killed between August 28 and September 1. The victims included four children and one woman. Twenty-one of these individuals died in direct Israeli airstrikes during this period.

The agency forcefully rejected Israel’s justifications for the continued violence. It emphasized that claims of targeting lawful objectives do not absolve the military of its obligations. International humanitarian law still binds Israel to protect civilian lives effectively.

Israel must take all feasible precautions to prevent non-combatant casualties. The statement warned that systematic violations are deepening total insecurity across the region. These actions undermine the fragile framework intended to protect vulnerable populations in Gaza.

Among the latest casualties was a raid in Al-Katiba west of Gaza City on September 1. A three-year-old girl and a thirteen-year-old boy were killed. A thirty-one-year-old man and a forty-nine-year-old woman also died in the attack.

The assessment underscores a severe humanitarian collapse compounded by persistent attacks. Millions face critical shelter shortages and lack basic medical supplies. Contaminated water infrastructure and disrupted relief operations further endanger displaced Palestinians daily.

The UN called for an immediate halt to violence and full legal accountability. It stated that the ceasefire exists in name only for millions living among ruins. No safe zone remains anywhere in the Gaza Strip today.
